The Original “Ant and Grasshopper” Quiz

This brief story teaches a general life lesson, which is written at the end of the narrative: “There’s a time for work and a time for play.” Rather than pronounce this truism in a dogmatic way, parents may choose to introduce their children to these two interesting personalities, Ant and Grasshopper, to teach the lesson in a more entertaining way. The story is not complicated and neither is the moral. The story is to be taken at face value. Spending too much time analyzing the story would weaken its impact. The point is to teach a simple, straightforward lesson that most people would agree is a good rule to live by.

Click below to start the quiz. Write several sentences for each answer.

  1. On a scale of one to ten, how important is it for children to understand that there is a time for work and a time for play? How might a child’s life be impacted in a positive way if he took this story to heart?

This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it will be reviewed and possibly adjusted after submission.

  2. In this fable, work involves repetitive tasks that are a drudgery but must be done for survival’s sake. What kinds of tasks are you required to complete on a regular basis that you consider uninspiring and toilsome but that must be done for survival’s sake?

This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it will be reviewed and possibly adjusted after submission.

  3. Do you personally have a balanced approach to “work” and “play”? Decades from now, do you think you are likely to experience the benefits of regular periods of rest and fun? According to your current work ethic, habits, and attitude, is it highly likely that your future self will fully enjoy times of repose after dutifully completing the mundane, everyday requirements for surviving in an adult world?

This response will be awarded full points automatically, but it will be reviewed and possibly adjusted after submission.
