This brief story teaches a general life lesson, which is written at the end of the narrative: “There’s a time for work and a time for play.” Rather than pronounce this truism in a dogmatic way, parents may choose to introduce their children to these two interesting personalities, the ant and the grasshopper, to teach the lesson in a more entertaining way. The story is not complicated and neither is the moral. The story is to be taken at face value. Spending too much time analyzing the story would weaken its impact. The point is to teach a simple, straightforward lesson that most people would agree is a good rule to live by.
